The Mayans lived in small villages, with parents, children and grandparents living together. Most families had their own fields by their homes in addition to the communal farmlands that the entire village took care of. The Women would cook over a fire pit inside of the house, and men would work the fields.

Education was handled differently for boys and girls. While boys would learn read and write the Mayan hieroglyphs in class, they would learn farming and hunting skills from their father. Girls would stay home and learn to cook and weave from their mother. Children of craftsmen would learn the family trade from their parents.

While the women would tend the houses, cook and weave, the men spent most of their day outside. They would work in their fields and the communal fields for most of the day, and hunt and check traps on their way home. Once home, the men would bathe while the women would prepare their dinner. After dinner the Mayans would typically do some kind of craft, with the men doing either wood or stone work while the women weaved.

If you’re fascinated by those documentaries on DIRECT TV about ancient warriors, you’ve certainly heard about the ancient Celts, who inhabited Europe more than 2,000 years ago.

Although there are some accounts of female warriors, the typical Celtic warrior was male. The basic Celtic warrior carried a set of one to four spears, one of which was about 6 feet long. This long fighting spear, called a “lancea,” was sometimes equipped with very large spearheads of as many as 20 inches in length. The smaller spears, called “gaesum,” were usually no longer than 4 inches. Each warrior also carried a large leather-covered, wooden shield with a metal boss. These shields were typically about 4 feet high and 1.6 feet wide. In addition to this equipment, the average Celtic warrior typically wore his everyday clothing which consisted of pants, a shirt and a mantle.

The richer warriors, or Celtic nobles, usually wore a neck ring (torc), and kept a sword with a 2.5-to-3-foot blade. Celtic nobles also typically wore armor and a helmet made from leather. However, richer warriors may have worn helmets made of metal – iron, bronze, or in rare cases, gold. Additionally, this equipment was often embellished with paintings and metal ornamentation.

The Celtic warriors were a very proud group, fighting many battles over hundreds of years. They were known to be a fearless group, and often lost tens, sometimes even hundreds, of thousands of men, according to some historians.

When Cortez first encountered the Aztecs, he found an advanced society, grounded in religious belief and governed by a complex set of rules and rituals–an Indian people whose daily lives revolved around family, religion and war.

Aztec civilization had a rigid political and social structure. As a typical male member of the common class in Aztec society, I was most likely a farmer, laborer, merchant or craftsman. As a woman, I took care of the household chores such as preparing meals, weaving cloth and raising children. As a citizen, I was expected to follow strict rules of conduct, provide proper instruction for my children and, if I was male, serve in the military.

The Aztecs were one of the first societies to mandate education. Even commoners were required to get some formal schooling. Males received instruction in religion, history, occupational skills, good citizenship and warfare. Females learned behavior and duties related to being a good wife and homemaker.

Religion played a vital role in the daily lives of the Aztecs. They worshipped, obeyed, made offerings and even made animal and human sacrifices to more than 1000 gods to ensure bountiful crops, the safety of family members and victory in warfare.

The Toltec culture has remained a mystery for many years. Much of what is known about this rich culture was recorded and preserved by the neighboring Aztec tribes. While the Toltecs and the Aztecs did not co-exist during the same time period, what remained of the Toltec culture during the Aztec period was closely safeguarded.

One main aspect of the daily life of the Toltecs is that these people were deeply religious and very protective of their territory and the members of their tribe. These individuals engaged in the worship of the god Quetzalcoatl. This god was said to be the ruling deity over philosophy and learning. What is speculated is that the learning in question consisted of both their environment and the means by which to protect themselves.

The Toltecs were also known for their great stone carvings. These ornamental statues give some indication that the Toltecs had prowess in things of war. Although, there is no substantive evidence that validates this claim. To this date no significant findings have been reported of any type of remnants of war. While the Toltecs were quite ready and able to defend themselves, it does not appear that this was a necessary facet for their daily living.

Daily life for the Amazon peoples entailed many different traditions and tasks. The people of the Amazon have perfected their existence with their natural habitats. Throughout the ages these individuals have strived to become one with their surroundings and reach the perfect pinnacle of harmony with nature. The individual living in the Amazon culture would engage in extensive religious worship daily. This daily worship would be expressed throughout the year in festivals and celebrations of the gods.

Amazon daily life also consisted of foraging and hunting duties. This would be performed by the more able and stronger members of the tribe. Since the overall culture of the Amazon people is one of sharing and aiding others, these hunts would be distributed by the elder members of the tribe to every member of the tribe. This assured that both the youngest and the oldest citizens were cared for and protected.

The Amazons were also known for being fiercely protective of their regions. For this reason some of the more agile and younger members of the tribe would engage in daily training. This training would teach these young men the ways in which to protect the tribe while still remaining in harmony with nature.

The daily lives of the Spartans was dictated by which of the three main social classes that the individual belonged to. These three social classes included the native born Spartans, the Peroikoi, and the Helot. Among these three groups only the Helot did not have their freedom.

The native born Spartans consumed the bulk of their time to military pursuits and participation in the government. These individuals were typically better off than the other two social classes. Their children went to state run schools to learn about military tactics, song, dance, and government activities. As soon as a baby was born, it was brought to be inspected by the elders of the society.

Life in Sparta was entirely controlled by the government. From the day the baby was born, until the day the individual died the government was in complete control of every aspect of the Spartan’s life. If the individual was a Peroikoi they were allotted a bit more control of their life. They were free, but were not allowed to participate in the government. These individuals were usually tradesmen or merchants. Finally the Helot were slaves. These individuals were given no freedoms at all. These individuals were made to engage in hard labor daily with substandard living conditions and treatment.

Germanic Tribes and later Norse cultures worshiped many of the Gods who know grace the names of the days of our weeks. Event he Angles and the Saxons venerated this pantheon. Viking refers to a profession rather than a culture. The Vikings took to their long ships and started raiding the seas due to the economic conditions of the 9th to 11th centuries. A surplus of a nobility coupled with the lack of availability of land caused many of these daring seaman to seek their fortune on the High seas.here.wordpress.com/2011/11/19/vikingsaxon-day-longboats-and-raids/’>This{{/tag} helps explain it more. Vikings would raid ships, castles and settlements. They may even capture Christian monks and sell them into slavery.

Although people consider the Vikings to be fierce warriors, the most famous product of this time is a warrior known as the berserker, Berserkers, who were famous for their rages, were often sent out as shock troops at a start of the battle. They often did not wear armor and used their rage to make them a more effective fighting force. Historians still debate what caused the rages. Theories include hallucinogenic drugs or simple rituals designed to bring the warriors into a fury. When the raiding was done, they often went back to their families and lived quiet lives. They would return to their career when the seas were right.
