Despite last year’s excellent participation of our Society with fifteen Hoplites in the Annual Parade in
the City of Piraeus for the Greek National Day of the 25th of March that gave great enthusiasm  to
the present crowd(PLEASE VIEW RELATIVE VIDEOS) this year the general secretary of the City
Board Mr. Antonakos Manolis REFUSED to us the Right to be part of this year’s Parade!
Unbelievable but Truly Greek!
The Honorable General Secretary of Piraeus City Council
So Mr. Antonakos who by the way is also Lakonian didn’t even bother to give us a strait
answer why not!  un serious he applied un serious excuses like: “People didn’t like you last year”
which is a total joke as anyone can see for himself in last year’s videos or: “The ancient appearance
of your group doesn’t match with the period of the celebrated day”!  Obviously he didn’t know that
the Great Warrior of Greek Revolution Makrigiannis said: “Save the Ancient rocks from the
foreigners because for those we fought!”              Besides what really inspired the Heroes of the
Greek Revolution of the 1821if not the Ideals of Freedom Virtue and National Honor of the Ancient
Greeks and Spartan Warriors?Bay watch know maybe the society of Lifeguards (like Bay watch!)
who paraded instead of us wearing bathing suits were more relevant to the Spirit of the Greek
Revolution and more suitable for our National Day’s Celebration!!
And all these were happening while in the other side of the world in USA at the town of
Baltimore along Ponca Street as you can see in the photos our dear friend and Co-hoplite Jim
Stamps of the Spartan & Amazon Warriors Society based in the states (the red Shield)sent to us
members of the American Greek Re-enacting Groups marched with the Greek Unions of USA invited
by them to do so along with Formal  Authorities for the Greek National Day of the 25th of March!
so          so ask Mr. Antonakos Manolis isn’t it strange this to be happening in the other side of the
world and here in Greece a representative of the Greek State like your self to deny us the right to be
part of the celebrations of our National Day?  Isn’t it strange for other countries to encourage similar
Cultural Societies and here IN OUR OWN COUNTRY to find such obstacles by the State
Authorities?  And what would you like us to do dear Sir?   Should we go to the States to Honor our
Forefathers?

HERE'S ONE FOR YOU!   As I understand it, The well know group
from Greece called the
"Spartiatikes Mores", marched in the
Greek Independence Day parade at Piraeus last year and
received many positive comments from the crowd.  There are
videos on their site to prove that!  Please click this link and see
the video's from PIRAEUS.

Well this year, they were denied the honor of marching in that
same parade. One of the comments stated to them was "The
Spartans had NOTHING to do with the 1821 Independence."
Meanwhile, all over the world groups like theirs were marching in
their own individual Greek Independence Day Parades and were
equally welcome by the audience.  My feelings are; Would there
have been an 1821 independence without the Spartans dying at
Thermopylai for Democracy in 480BC in the first place?
Please read the article below,(taken from the Spartiatikes Mores
announcement page) and let me know what your feelings are.
When I first picked up a book about Ancient Greece in my
school Library I was instantly fascinated. I found something
there about the people, places and philoshophy of Ancient
Greece that I found an instant affinity for. As if it were a life I
had lived before….I was 6 years old.
There was something in everything I read that echoed inside
me. The Athenian ideals of Government and tolerance. The
Spartan code of discipline and sacrifice. The Greeks thirst for
knowledge and exploration….all of it I made my way of life in
little ways.
I delved into a lifelong career in Law Enforcement with a
Spartan sense of purpose in serving my state. They have been
my inspiration and a model for gaining a deep sense of duty
and honor.  I took the name, Apollokrates; the power of
Apollo. As a musician, craftsman and pragmatist it seemed
ideal to honor these values of Apollo.  I have spent a
tremendous amount of time researching every detail in the
construction and appearance of the Greek Panoply. Everything
in the pictures except the helmets themselves I made.  Of the
parts that I guessed at decorating or constructing using my
research later were verified by artifacts as being in the proper
Greek manner. Everything has a basis in fact or are inferences
and extrapolations from artifacts I own or had access to. The
spearhead in the pictures is a real Spartan or Pelopennesian
Bronze spearhead dating about 490 BC.
I do custom make armor and shield and all the parts and
fittings, but because I use only the real materials the costs can
be high. I specialize in ‘real’ armor, not costumes.  The armor
I am wearing took 2 months to make and is made of leather,
Leopard skin, Ivory, Silver and Bronze. Sewn together with
dyed linen hemp. The Chitoniskos is made from flax linen
dyed with Madder root which is one of the natural red color
dyes used by the Ancient Greeks and other ancient Peoples.
